Seriously, what the hell is wrong with these people?

We're obviously extremely pro-wildlife, so when we read stories like this one, we just simply cannot fathom what kind of person does this kind of thing:
An Alaskan man has been charged with intentionally ramming his jet boat into breaching humpback whales in the state's southeast waters, authorities said.

Kevin B. Carle, 44, was charged with a federal misdemeanor for violating the Endangered Species Act by "knowingly harassing, pursuing and harming whales," the Anchorage Daily News reported Thursday.
Like, what happened to Mr. Carle as a child to make him such an asshole?
UPDATE: Sweet lord Almighty. Today's news had a whole bucketload of wingnut animal haters. Check out this link to an AZ Game and Fish Department bulletin on a bighorn killing.

This happened not all that far from where the alpha male and a two-year-old male from the Hawk's Nest pack of Mexican wolves were killed between mid-June and mid-July. The two-year old's body was found close to the carcass of a cow, also shot to death. Do these people just fire at anything that moves?

We like to camp and hike in this beautiful area, but I'm beginning to think we need bullet-proof vests for our protection!

Of course when I said "this happened," I meant the shooting of the bighorn sheep, not the guy beating up on whales with his boat. What the hell does anybody have against bighorn sheep or whales, for heaven's sake? Wingnut animal haters is right.
